| Sir Alan Cox was born in the
Black Country, was educated at Oldbury Grammar School, did accountancy
training in Birmingham and qualified both as a Chartered Accountant
and as a Chartered Management Accountant. He has held many senior
executive management positions including Chairman and Corporate Director
within GKN. Sir Alan was responsible for the flotation of Allied Steel
& Wire (which was a merger of GKN and British Steel businesses)
in 1988 on the UK stock exchange with profits of £30 million.
He was awarded the C.B.E. in 1987 and was Knighted in 1994. He is
a Non-Executive Director of The Morgan Crucible Company plc and of
Meggitt plc and Chairman of the Wales Millennium Centre Project. Sir
Alan’s interests include walking, cooking, music, opera and
France.
